Planning your New Year’s celebrations in London

Europe - Ross French - December 12, 2013

London is one of the world’s most famous New Year’s Eve destinations. The UK’s capital is famed for its clock tower Big Ben and nothing is more iconic of the New Year being ushered in than the countdown of this clock to midnight on 31st December.

London is very busy on New Year’s Eve and you could be put off from attending the city’s activities, however if you are brave enough to face the crowds, you will be in for a New Year’s party like no other.

New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Why not start off the New Year with a bang? The fireworks in London this New Year’s Eve will be launching from the London Eye and you’ll be able to see Big Ben and St Pauls in the background.

Expect viewing locations for the fireworks to get very busy early, so aim to arrive for around 9 PM if you wish to get a good spot. Good places to see the fireworks from are Victoria Embankment, Waterloo, Westminster and east Jubilee Bridge, and the north bank of the Thames.

If you wish to see the fireworks in style, then you should consider viewing them from a boat tour on the Thames. There are a number of these available that offer excellent views of the fireworks and surrounding locations.

Clubs and Bars

London has an excellent club and bar scene, which is not surprising since it is one of the world’s most visited cities. If you love to drink and dance, then why not see the New Year in at one of the capital’s many clubs or bars.

No matter what your taste in music, you can be sure to find a club to suit you. All of London’s big and small clubs will be running special events for New Year’s Eve and you can guarantee that it’s going to be a busy night, so we recommend booking your tickets in advance.

Accommodation

After your evening of celebrating you’re going to need somewhere to stay, unless of course you don’t end up sleeping! If you’re looking to stay fairly central, then there are hotels in Shepherd’s Bush.

London is a great city to spend New Year’s Eve in. Ensure that you plan your trip ahead and you should have an excellent evening of partying and fun.
