Getting the Right Ski Gear

Europe, Travel Blog, Travel Tips - Ross French - November 19, 2015

There’s nothing like hitting the snowy slopes for an awesome day of fun and realizing you’ve left something essential, whether clothing or gear, behind. Fear not – let these handy infographics guide you in ensuring you’re completely prepared for whatever the wintery conditions will throw at you. Regarding gear and accessories, skiing and snowboarding are some of the most exciting and exhilarating sports out there, but also potentially dangerous if you’re not appropriately equipped. Ensure your upper body is suitably prepared with a good quality helmet and goggles. Your lower body, meanwhile, needs boots, skis or snowboard and ski poles. Don’t forget your backpack that will lug all your gear after you’re done for the day!

When it comes to covering your body properly, you’ll want to carefully consider each layer in order to make sure you’re comfortable and warm. Some good long underwear – whether synthetic or natural fiber, plus a mid-layer – generally merino wool, polyester, or nylon, are essential. On top of these will go a good, water-resistant pair of pants, tall socks, a parka/shell, plus accessories such as a hat, gloves, mask, eyewear, and a neck gaiter for neck protection. Getting your stuff together can be an enjoyable process in itself – as you build anticipation for your activities in the frosty climes. Once you’re set, grab your friends and family and head out for the time you’ve been waiting for all year long.

Ross French grew up outside Toronto, blah blah… he went to the University of Western Ontario for fine arts and like any degree, has since done nothing in that field. More seriously, Ross French is a travel junkie & a tech nerd with a slightly concerning love for beer & wine. he a has a great awareness of life outside the 9-5 and hopes to aspire to be a hammock bum one day.
